Before I left Iowa for Oregon, before I began building a life with my partner, and before I made the difficult decision to step into the unknown, there was one thing I had to face: paperwork. My journey toward citizenship through marriage has reshaped my understanding of togetherness. It’s not just about love—it’s about patience, anticipation, and a process that constantly reminds you that the road to unity isn’t always linear. Our love story is one of waiting for the next step, filling out forms, and navigating the spaces between “what is” and “what will be.”
In creating this piece, I reflected a lot on immigration policy. It’s not intended to be a political statement, but in today’s climate, it’s hard for it not to feel that way. Immigration is never easy. Doing it the “right” way is a privilege and an exercise in patience. Few Americans truly understand what the process entails. It strips away your humanity, making it easy to lose sight of the fact that this is about my relationship.
ART & CULTURE
This magazine was born out of a collective desire to celebrate the alternative culture that was flourishing in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Inspired by the vibrant energy around us, we saw a need to create a platform that would elevate the voices and stories of local artists and creators.
As one of the project’s lead, I curated the content and worked closely with a small team of photographers, writers, designers, and artists to bring it to life. Each issue was a reflection of the avant-garde movements in Honduras, capturing the passion and talent of the creatives shaping the scene.
Every spread was meticulously crafted, contributing to the ongoing beauty of this cultural movement. What began as a personal endeavor evolved into a fully realized project, where we secured sponsorships, organized photoshoots, and shaped each quarter’s content, all while spotlighting the artists and stories that were driving the local scene forward.
ARTE & CULTURA
The major arcana of my tarot deck reimagines each card through the lens of feminine strength and empowerment. I used the female form to visually express themes of transformation, resilience, and self-discovery, while maintaining the essence of the traditional tarot symbols.
Through this project, I found a deeper connection to my own femininity and embraced the magic of self-acceptance. The artwork is a reflection of that personal journey, where each card is a powerful reminder of the strength within.
